American affluence and ingenuity has made it possible to eat everyday without ever turning on the stove, however, we are paying a terrible price for that convenience. According to the Center for Disease Control, in the past 30 years, obesity rates have doubled for adults and tripled for children. After smoking, obesity is the leading lifestyle-related cause of disease and death in the U.S. it leads to heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer. It puts children at risk for heart disease, diabetes, bone and joint problems, and social and psychological problems. Obese children are more likely to be obese adults. A number of lifestyle changes have contributed to the increasing rate of obesity: people are drinking more sodas, skipping more meals, and eating out more at restaurants where super-sized portions have become the norm.
In addition, many people believe that cooking is a difficult, time-consuming chore. In the interest of saving time, they resort to buying and serving fast and pre-prepared foods that unfortunately contain high levels of sugar, fat, salt, preservatives and empty calories. A large percentage of our population does not like to cook, does not know how, and cannot find time in their schedules to cook
I am America ’s Cooking Cheerleader™, and it is my vision to turn the health of our nation around by teaching and encouraging people to cook for their families. I am creating the Let’s Cook Tonight™ movement; it’s a movement of men and women who are cooking for their families to improve their health, create quality family time, and save money. I am not a professional chef, just a good home cook and I can teach you how to find the time to cook, and how to make delicious, nutritious dinners using the least amount of thought, work, and time.
Cooking is easier than you think and you and your family are worth the time and effort it takes.
Simple cooking idea: Chicken with its bone and skin attached is less expensive. Save money and take the skin off yourself.
