You can change the future.

I heard a prediction that I find incredibly sad. It is predicted that this generation of children will be the very first generation to have a shorter life span than its parents. This stems from the fact that in the past 30 years childhood obesity has tripled for children. Obesity puts children at risk for heart disease, diabetes, and bone and joint problems. Obese children are more likely to be obese adults. Eating patterns and habits develop in childhood and stay with us for the rest of our lives.

As America’s Cooking Cheerleader™, it is my passion to ensure that this prediction does not come true. Eating is one area of our lives where we can exercise complete control. No one holds a gun up to your head and makes you eat what you do. You need to remember that the food you eat plays a big part in your health. You eat so fast, and so automatically, that you forget that the cheeseburger or candy bar you eat today is making your heart and liver cells tomorrow. There is nothing wrong with fast foods, junk food, sweet and salty snacks; just do not make them a staple of your diet. Enjoy the less nutritious foods in reasonable amounts once in awhile and make the mainstay of your diet fresh, real foods that do not come with a label.

You can teach your children how important food is to their bodies, and you can buy foods that you have to cook to ensure they get the most nutrition. As America’s Cooking Cheerleader™, I am creating a movement of men and women who are cooking for their families to improve their health, create quality family time, and to save money. Why don’t you join me; your children deserve it.

Cooking is easier than you think and you and your family are worth the time and effort it takes.

Simple cooking idea: Use a fork to mash your potatoes. Then you will not have to clean the electric mixer.
